The Port Wentworth Youth Council (PWYC) gives local students a real seat at the table in their city. Members serve a program year alongside City staff and elected officials, taking part in community service projects, City events, workshops, and leadership activities designed to help them understand how their community works and the role they can play in making a positive difference.

Our Mission

The Port Wentworth Youth Council is committed to bridging the gap between young people and their community by empowering the new generation to have a voice, gain meaningful experience with city government, and take an active role in shaping their future. We strive to create a safe, welcoming, and encouraging space where youth can develop a strong sense of civic responsibility, initiate positive change, be proactive, and develop and demonstrate leadership skills. Through mentoring, encouragement, and meaningful opportunities to serve their community, we inspire young people to lead with confidence, serve as role models, and create a lasting positive impact in Port Wentworth.

Youth Council Responsibilities

Membership includes a commitment to:

  • Attend regular Youth Council meetings, held monthly at 6:00 PM.
  • Participate in service projects that serve the Port Wentworth community.
  • Represent the Youth Council at City events, festivals, and parades.
  • Attend City Council meetings to see local government at work firsthand.
  • Serve as a voice for young people and bring youth priorities to City leadership.

Additional activities and opportunities may be added throughout the program year.
