Welcome to Port Wentworth, Georgia-the Stand Up For America City! Our goal is to provide useful information to current residents, as well as those who are considering becoming a part of this great community. Please refer to the information below on how to start utility services for your new residence and/or business.

Bilingual Staff
City of Port Wentworth Spanish-speaking employees are available during normal business hours, Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m – 4:30 p.m., to speak with customers who feel more comfortable using Spanish as their first language.

Full color, one-sided, copies are available for only 10¢ per sheet. Black and white copies are 5¢ per page.

The City of Port Wentworth no longer offers faxing services to the general public. This is due to the move to electronic messaging, where documents are scanned and transmitted in digital format. Thus, the hard copy paper method using an actual fax machine has been relinquished. Traditional faxing services are available at our local UPS Store. To learn more click here.

Notary Services
The City of Port Wentworth offers FREE Notary Public Services. Proper identification is required for all notarized documents. For more information on Georgia Notary Public authorities, click here.

The City of Port Wentworth provides water service to over 4,200 City residents. When moving into a property in Port Wentworth, water service is established in the name of the owner or occupant unless otherwise stated by the landlord of a rental property.

To start new services, customers are expected to complete a Water/Sewer/Sanitation Application and pay the required deposit amount(s). Applicants can apply in person at City Hall, 7224 GA Highway 21, Port Wentworth, Georgia 31407, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Applications are also available below and may be returned via fax to 912-966-7429.

Please keep in mind that services will NOT be connected until the necessary fee amount(s) are received at City Hall. Applications received before 12:00 noon, can typically be connected the same day. After 12:00 noon, services will be connected the following business day.

Deposit Requirement
For residential customers, the water/sewer fee is $100.00 and the sanitation fee is $75.00. Commercial customers are asked to call 912-964-4379 with the building square footage to obtain deposit amounts for water services. Commercial sanitation and recycling pickup options will be discussed at the time of your call.

The City of Port Wentworth does NOT perform credit checks to determine credit eligibility for credit worthiness. All new accounts are required to pay the $100.00 water/sewer fee and $75.00 sanitation fee, if applicable.

Billing and Payment Dates
Port Wentworth residents are billed on a monthly basis for water, sewer and/or sanitation. Bills are generated for services used from the 15th-to-the-15th of the month. For example: Utility services for the month of August will be based on water/sewer consumption from June 15th – July 15th. Utility bills are mailed the 1st week of every month and are due upon receipt. Failure to receive a bill does not relieve penalties, fees or disconnection.

Deposit Return
The $100.00 water/sewer deposit paid at the time of application will be re-applied to the account of the property where the account holder is requesting services to be disconnected. The final utility bill amount will be taken from the $100 deposit and a refund check, if any, will be sent to the account holder. In cases where the $100 deposit is less than the final bill amount, the account holder will be mailed a bill showing the balance owed. Again, the $75.00 trash container fee is non-refundable. Deposits paid for commercial accounts will be refunded in full.

Disconnecting Service
A disconnection form must be completed whenever a resident or property owner/management company vacates a property within the City of Port Wentworth. This form can be downloaded here or a copy obtained from City Hall. The information listed is used to alert the City to turn off water services and allows the resident to provide a forwarding address where the final bill or refund check can be mailed. Account holders will continue to receive monthly utility bills and accrue charges if a disconnection form is not submitted.

The City of Port Wentworth does not transfer services from one address to another within City limits. Residents are required to repeat the application process to request water/ sewer/sanitation services at a new property. This means that the required $100.00 deposit and $75.00 non-refundable trash container fee must be paid before services are connected.

Electronic Payments
Personal checks are an acceptable form of payment that may be received in the Water Department inside City Hall and will be processed electronically. Starter checks (checks that require you to hand write your name/address at the top of the check) of any kind will not be accepted.

Drop Box Locations
The City of Port Wentworth offers two after-hours drop box locations. One at the old Port Wentworth City Hall, 305 South Coastal Highway, and the other on the building of the new Port Wentworth City Hall located at 7224 GA Highway 21. Payments received after 4:00 p.m. will be posted to your account the following business day. Please do not place cash inside either drop box location.

Late Notice
Red late notices will be mailed to all residents with a past due balance. Past due water/sewer/sanitation accounts will also receive telephone notifications through our automated system. Thus, it is imperative that account holders notify the City of a change in telephone number as soon as possible.

Late Penalties
A 10% late penalty charge will be added on accounts not paid by 5:00 p.m. on the last business day of the month. Past due balances are due by 5:00 p.m. on the 14th of the month or payment in full must be received by 5:00 p.m. on the 15th of the month to avoid disconnection. If the 14th or 15th falls on a weekend or holiday, then payment must be received the preceding business day by 5:00 p.m.

Non-Payment Fee
A $50.00 disconnection fee will be assessed to accounts that are disconnected for non-payment or returned check.

Paying Your Bill
The Water Department is located inside City Hall. Residents may pay their utility bill during normal business hours Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Customers may also view and pay utility bills here. Customers with a registered account will be able to view their latest water/sewer/sanitation bill and payment/billing history.

Residents also have the option to sign up for Automatic Bill Payment (ACH Drafts), which authorizes automatic withdrawals for the total amount of your utility bill from your checking or savings account on the 15th of each month. The ACH Draft Form is available here.

Payment Options
Major credit/debit cards, personal checks for electronic processing and cash are all acceptable forms of payment for starting new services and paying your monthly utility bill in our office. The City of Port Wentworth does not accept American Express.

At this time, the City of Port Wentworth does NOT accept over-the-phone payments.

Questions About Your Bill
Monthly utility bills are based on the amount of water you consume each period, sewer charges and a flat fixed fee for sanitation services. If you have any questions regarding the calculation of your bill, please contact City Hall at 912-964-4379 or send an email via our contact us page.

Returned Payments
A $25.00 service fee will be applied to utility accounts if payment is returned for any reason; including returned checks, declined Automatic Payments (ACH Drafts), stop payments on checks, closed accounts, and credit/debit card charge backs. Water services will also be disconnected AND a $50.00 disconnection fee will be added to the account.

In order to have services restored, the amount of the check AND the additional $25.00 fee must be paid in the form of cash or credit/debit card. Customers with two returned payments will be required to pay their utility bills with cash or credit/debit cards.

For water or sewer emergencies that occur after 5:00 p.m., that are not related to billing, such as a sewer back up or a main water line break, please call the Emergency After-hours number at 912-656-9449.

Outdoor water use may occur only on scheduled days within the hours of midnight to 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to midnight.

Odd-numbered addresses may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays; Even-numbered addresses may water on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The use of outdoor water is NOT permissible between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and No watering is allowed on Fridays.

Water meters are the property of the City of Port Wentworth. Tampering with the meter may result in a citation with fines up to $1,000.00.

Atlantic Waste is the exclusive garbage collection provider for the City of Port Wentworth. One (1) green lid trash cart and one (1) Yellow lid recycling cart are assigned to every household. Driver Services
New Georgia residents should apply for a Georgia driver’s license within 30 days of establishing residency. The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) issues driver’s licenses through its facility on 1117 Eisenhower Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406. All Customer Service Centers can transfer an out-of-state license to a Georgia driver license.

The registration and tag office for Savannah-Chatham County residents is located at 1145 Eisenhower Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406. This office does not handle driver license transactions or questions.
