PORT WENTWORTH, GA – Jan. 20, 2025 – The City of Port Wentworth is actively monitoring the upcoming winter storm forecasted to impact our area. In anticipation of severe weather conditions, the city is taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
All city sports activities scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, Wednesday, Jan. 22, and Thursday, Jan. 23 have been cancelled. City offices will be closing early at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and will remain closed throughout Wednesday, Jan. 22. Regular operations are expected to resume on Thursday, Jan. 23, pending weather conditions. The Senior Center will follow the same schedule as city offices, operating for a half-day on Tuesday, Jan. 21, closing at 12 p.m. and remaining closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. All scheduled court proceedings will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
To support residents during this period of potentially hazardous weather, the City of Port Wentworth will open a warming and charging center at the P.B. Edward Jr. Gymnasium, located at 101 Turnberry St. The center will be available beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and is open to all residents who may experience power outages or lack access to appropriate heating sources.
“The safety and well-being of our residents are our top priorities as we face this winter storm,” said City Manager Steve Davis. “We urge everyone to take necessary precautions and utilize city resouces like our warming and charging center.”
