City Of Port Wentworth Microburst Storm Response Update

PORT WENTWORTH, GA – 4 p.m. May 27, 2025 – In the aftermath of a sudden microburst storm that swept through Port Wentworth on Monday, May 26, emergency services have swiftly responded to ensure resident’s safety and restoration of power to the community. The storm left a path of minor structural damage and resulted in over 2,000 residents experiencing power outages. Fortunately, power has now been restored in all but a few locations and this process is expected to be completed within a few hours, and the community is moving forward with recovery efforts.

Thanks to the prompt and coordinated efforts of local emergency services, including police, fire, and the public works team, all roads were cleared within just a couple of hours of the end of the storm. This rapid response has allowed for the safe movement of residents and emergency vehicles, ensuring that the community remains secure and accessible.

The debris response initiative is currently focused on the Pine Forest Subdivision, where residents are asked to assist by bringing debris to the curb for collection. To facilitate the cleanup, three dumpsters are being delivered today, May 27, for small debris. For larger items, such as downed trees, a large grapple truck will be deployed on Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30 and will return on Thursday, June 5 and Friday, June 6 to ensure thorough removal of debris. Residents of other neighborhoods will continue to follow standard bulk pickup procedures on their designated days.
